Nothing is working for me , am I not hitting it hard enough because I'd be so worried about breaking it ! It's such an old camera now that there's no point in paying to get it fixed, any ideas ??

Laura Adams, July 2014
hitted, but nothing guys...someone can help me, before I decide to use a hammer??? TY

Nat, April 2011
I fixed mine by pressing it with my hand and powering on then off

yay i thought the whole tapping the camera thing wouldn't work i tried it several times, i thought i was going to break the camera in half!lol
so i tried twisting the lens back and fourth very gently nothing. So then i just cleaned the lens with a cloth and turned it off took the batteries out, put them back in a and turned it on and it worked. i'd advise u try all 3 persistance is the key.

sounds crazy but it worked

Thanks guys. Phil Perry was a light at the end of the tunnel for my FinePix S5600. i found this really helpful.

Now normally, whenever my kids bang their toys on the floor or table, they get a telling off and the threat of having the said item taken away - well, i guess that i need to review that policy!!

My Finepix Z100 developed this error and I didn't expect this one to work, but after two or three firm 'bangs' on the table, I'm amazed to agree that it has done the job!

Thank-you!

WOW!!! Thank you! You all just saved me big bucks! Was a little leery banging on the table, but after I bruised my hand decided to give it a shot! Worked like a charm! Again, thank you :)

photohydrant, July 2009
i have exactly that problem but the table thing is not working for me what side do i smack it on ?? i really need my camera back !

Amy, July 2009
I was looking at buying a new one because mine had exactly the same problem... found this webpage and ...heypresto it works!!!! Thanks guys - here's to slamming the table :0)

jangelmouse, July 2009
Wow! The table thing does work! When your camera is off, hit the side with the zoom/lens thing on a table several times and turn it on. It should work, but if its the same as the way it was before try again. Mine worked the third time I tried it.

I have an finepix a500, an i was tapping it on my hand and it didn't work but then i layed it flat on its back and tapped it on the table a couple of times and guess what........IT WORKED, hw amazing!

shorifa, June 2009
i really dont know i need help too.

shaneesa, February 2009
wow!
the tapping on the table thing totally solved my problem too!

Brittany, September 2008
Had the same problem, after a drop, it wouldn't close. Hit it on the table softly while powering off, a couple of times, and it now seems to work again.

Got it apart but no luck getting to the focus mechanism, only sucess it that the screwdriver fits.

Albert, January 2008
Same sort of thing with my A500. Pressing the lens while powering off managed to get it to retract but lots of grinding noise when turning it back on and got stuck again. Tried to take it apart but anti tamper screws so far prevent this. Have ordered a screwdriver that is said to fit a nintendo Wii which looks similar (Triangular jobbi), will let you know if i have any joy.

Albert, January 2008
Tried tapping it on table ,i may try jumping on it next.If it works ill let you know!

dave griffin, July 2007
Have the same problem on our A500 & got the lens to retract by tapping it during power off (using hand - not the table!) Display still says "Focus Error" so I guess it's off to the factory repair center. Other ideas?

Dave H., May 2007
Had "FOCUS ERROR" appear on my Finepix S5600. The lens seemed to be stuck at the extremity of focus range. I resorted to hitting the camera on a table while turning it off (because this is when it sounded as though the focus motor was trying to move the lens back). Guess what? It worked.
