Hi! I also have a Toshiba dvd player model SD -1300Y and have the same problem. I have since discovered these dvd players are not compatible with lots of dvds including DVD-R.
They apparently can not read this and other formats. I hope I have enlightened you and we are off to buy another dvd that can read all formats
