somethings wrong with my sound card!?

i just had windows xp taken off a reput onto the computer and the hard drive wiped, the sound worked flawlessly before this happened and now it comes up with the error message " cannot play back the audio stream: no hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding" i know that the hardware hasnt been touched, so i was wondering if i had to install the sound card or something? can somebody pleassseee help me!!

you need to load the sound card drivers from either cd rom disc or web site of card maker

Sounds like your driver got removed. Usually it is on a disc. Otherwise you need to download it. To find out what sound card you have, you can download
www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/WinAudit.shtml
which will tell you what hardware you have. Then you can google for it like "yamaha yz999 driver download"
Sometimes the manufacturer will have it, other times they just make the chip and sell it.
