how can I fix a grundig sky digibox which will not receive some channels?

I have a sky digibox which will only show some channels but not others, for example sky sports is lost, it will indicate "no satellite signal being received" or "problem with this channel try later". I have a small digibox in another room and this works in both locations. therefore assume the digbox is at fault. sky want £60 to come and look, is there a fix? I have turned off the power etc etc. grundig model 2.81 version 4e0503 software 3.5.3

Just a few comments on the last answer. Not trying to be funny or anything like that but just give a little warning. Matt you may be a Sky engineer but the problem with the PS on Grundig boxes is well known. (I guess you just swap them out.) Second a forced download on a box that has a bad signal can fry it for good. Once again if that happens to you you just swap it ot.

hello friend, i'm matt and a sky engineer.. to be honest it could be a few things really.. first off start with a software download, remove card, switch off box at mains, press and hold 'back up' on front of your box and switch box back on, after 15 seconds or so you'll have four lights on front of box and message on screen.. leave for 10 to 15min, put card back in and switch back on..

if that didn't work, i could be your quad LNB, shpuldn't be tho as you try'd your other box..

its prob the tuner or power pack inside your box, they are about £18 each to buy from specialist shops, maplins etc..
and you can do it yourself with a soldering iron and a little time.. hope this helps, matt.. abercraf@hotmail.co.uk

Yes there's a fix. It consists of replacing all of the capacitors(about 12) in the box's power supply. You can buy a kit from a company called satcure. If you can solder (it IS a skill) then you could try the kit or call Sky for a refurbished box.
