white substance?

i took my ghds apart and there seems to be a white substance behind the heating componant like white paint for eg. is it meant to be like this?

yes, this is most likely to be heat sink compound, this is used to transfer the heat from the heating element to the ceramic pads, without this the elements will more than likely get too hot and burn out but the ceramic pads will not get hot enough
