Not wishing to make you feel silly; Make sure water tap to machine is turned on .... sometimes the plastic key can slip and appears to be in the on position. Is it both hot and cold water Lynda? If it is just the cold then its a chance the inlet valve needs changing. One way of checking it is to swap the pipes over to the wall connection and see if you get hot water coming into the machine instead of cold when you have a cold wash selected.
