how can i format my harddrive?

i have a toshiba laptop with no cds or backups i need to reinstall windows but format everything aswell. is this possible

And I'm guessing that as you said you did not have any CDs you don't have a copy of Windows. Your PC may have a recovery partition. Have a look on the Tosh web site for a manual to see if you have one. Alternatively if the PC shipped with a a recovery CD which has been lost then they are often obtainable from the PC manufacturer. Finally you can buy a copy of XP and then add any necessary drivers from the Tosh web site.

Im guessing by re-intalling windows you have a 2000/XP cd? If you do and your planning to use it for the install you can format it as part of the process.

Otherwise try a program like FDISK from microsoft (on windows CD or download). There are plenty of freeware programs out there that are simular and all will remove the partition tables and reformat.

Unless your wanting to 100% wipe all i wouldnt bother with a low level format, standard one is more than sufficent.
