belt not going round, dyson dc04?

hello, i'm asking this question on behalf of my mother, she's got a dyson dc04, and the brush does not go round when switched on, after about 5/10 seconds it starts making a ratchet noise, and the smell of burning rubber. so she has to switch it off. the hoover is about 4/5yrs old, with any body's help and advice would be appreciated, if i can do the repair without having to pay extortionate prices. thanks in advance

Hi
It sounds like either the belt is slipping or completely come off. The same happened to mine, and it wouldn't pick up any dirt. Its easily fixed, you should be able to get a belt for a couple of pounds, just undo the roller and you will see where it fits on.
