Sp2 has an uninstall program listed in Add/remove programs from the control panel, however your problem may be caused by insufficient RAM try going to 286 or better.

Why not just click START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>SYSTEM RESTORE and pick a day the thing worked right..

After you do this make sure you get the firefox browser because Internet explorer uses Active X to install spyware!Browse safe.
In internet explorer shut off third party browser extensions, etc.

Make sure you get ad-aware NOT adware. Note the hyphen Adware actually puts stuff on your machine. Ad-aware (the genuine article) is found at http://www.lavasoft.de/. As for being forced to download windows updates, yes, unless you turn off automatic updates.

Microsoft forced users with windows update to download and installed windows xp sp automatically.

go to ther comntrol panel and then select add/remove programs there you will find the list of programs installed, find the xpsp2 update and then remove, the pc is likely to need a reboot to complete the application removal but make sure you have a firewall before you remove sp2

check that you dont have spyware/adware, i have a program called Webroot Spyware sweeper it cost me £30 ans has a yrs update included, i was shocked to find how much unwaed eyes were found

a free program called Spybot search and destroy can also be used but not as powerful

your computer is full of spyware. use adaware to clean it out. just type adaware in the google searchbar and you will find it.
