Worn areas inside washing machine drum?

My kenmore washer is about 7 years old and the drain holes inside the drum are worn so that bare metal is exposed around them. This is causing rust spots on my clothing. Can I sand and cover these worn spots with porcelain touch up paint? My family is tired of going around with rust spots on their clothes. I hate to get rid of the washer, as this is the only problem with it.

Several years ago I went through the same situation. I don't remember the exact model, but it was a very reliable brand. It was about 7 years old also. I researched and found that the average life of a washer is about 7 years depending on usage. I sanded and reporcelined it, than 6 months late a gear failed in the drive. I fixed it, then 2 months later the motor died. My advice, shop for a good buy on a reliable brand and replace it before things get worse. If you must, the people that reglaze bath tubs might be able to help.
