Hi, tonight I went to open front door but it would not open. Door is unlocked but will not open. Handle moves up and down. Any ideas??

Yes the handle moves right to the bottom. And yes it appears to open at top and bottom but not where the handle is. If I lock it with the key by moving the handle up first, the door does not move at top and bottom or in middle. How much would you estimate this would cost to fix? By myself or by professional? Thanks for your help.

Lynn, to give an accurate answer I would need more infomation. You say the door handle moves up and down but does it move all the way to the bottom. If it doesn't move down past the horizontal position then it is likely the multi point lock mechanism has broken. If the handle moves all the way down does the door become loose if you pull it away from the frame at the top and bottom. I work for a company called "safe n sound ltd" and we supply replacement hardware for pvcu windows and doors to enable them to keep working.
