rattling drum on washing machine?

when my hotpoint washer is spinning it makes a horrible noise. When i turn the drum by hand it is very stiff and makes a loud click on every turn. Can it be fixed or should i replace it rather than spend a fortune on repairs! Thanks

What your describing is most probably a wire from a bra - it is a common problem, the wire works loose & into the inner workings of the drum, if this is the case it can be removed by stripping the back of the washing machine then removing the drum and splitting it to gain access to the drum - it is not too difficult a task but is time consuming, don't continue to use it like this as it can do further damage (i.e. to the pump inlet hose etc.) Check all your bras! (& everyone else who lives in household) Hope this helps.
