i hahe a mashita dvd sr8583 and it wont allow me to play dvds?

My mashita DVD reader sr 8583 will not allow me to play dvds when i load a dvd i get an error message that the pc does not have a dvd device fitted

how have you wired it up? is it set to master or slave? what position is it on the ide lead? ie end connector is master middle is slave more info please
