I doubt very much this is a virus.
As a possible quick fix - try this: Remove the battery (there will be a button to release it on the underside of the laptop) and power lead. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Then re-insert the battery and power lead and switch on - tap the F8 key before windows starts and choose "Last known good configuration" which may get you back up and running...
Hope you had all your music, pics & files backed up - 'cos if you restore your laptop from the supplied CDs they'll all be wiped. Hey, look on the bright side, you'll get a much faster laptop if you restore it from the CDs.
