The DVD tray does not retract into my computer anymore. My boy bumped it when it was open, does not appear to be broken but it will not slide back in any more.

You will have to remove the drive from its case and try to free it manually. by gently tapping it. Not a big job, and one you can do yourself by removing the screws from the side case of your tower and then disconnected the cable at the rear of the dvd drive.
