how can i fix my ceiling light?

The lighting in your house is looped from lighting point to lighting point, i.e. room to room so you will have a live and neutral coming in (one cable) and a live and neutral going out (second cable to next room, if this is not connected to the first cable then the lights in other rooms will have no power). The third wire goes from the lighting point down to the switch(switch wires). Live in and live out connect together, neutral in and neutral out connect together (and to neutral of light fitting). Red to switch connect to live, and black to switch connect to live of light fitting. Connect all earths together. Hope this helps. Wiring diagrams for the above should explain more. http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/replacelightfitting.htm

Good luck

hi c, again. thinking you have a rose terminal ...if you dont and you only have 3 red wires and 2 black wires pocking out of your ceiling, then you should think..are you compident to do the job in hand... do you need an electricain... if not you have to test each red wire when LIVE trying not to touch the other wires at the same time or they WILL flash a very bright light if they short and trip your mains if you have mcb's (they replace the fuse wire carriers) on your consumer fuse board... again 2 red wires will be live and 1 red will not be live this it the light switch wire you connect the brown wire of the fitting and the blue wire of the fitting to the blacks.

hi, c, i take it you are refuring to the ceiling rose. if you look carefull at the 3 red wires you will see that one of them is on a terminal of its own usualy on the right out side edge this is the return from the light switch and should have a spare terminal next to it. the 2 red in the middle are ring lives and the 2 blacks to the left are ring neutrals. the blue wire goes to the 2 blacks and the brown to the red on the right on its own that is not live with the light switch off.. . .but the other 2 reds will be
