Panasonic NV-HD70A ejects cass a few seconds after inserting?

This machine has been working O.K. until now. The top was removed to see what was happening. When the cassette is inserted, it goes in and loads normally, the tape path becomes threaded normally, and the head drum rotates apparently normally. After a few seconds the tape is ejected. I have no technical info at all for this machine. Does anyone know how to remedy this fault?
Thanks in anticipation

Thank you Cobweb for your input. I found the problem. The pinch roller, which holds the tape against the capstan, would not feed down the pivot shaft. I removed the pinch roller unit, cleaned and lubricated the shaft and bush. On reassembly it works okay. I use the VTR as a tuner for my TV and I left the tape in the unit for months without using the tape. However, I did not realize that the drum revolves all the time the VCR is in the VTR mode with a tape inserted. Therefore, I will not leave the tape in the machine when the tape is not in use.

If cylinder and capstan rotation seems ok, check for anything fouling tape travel or reel rotation.

eg. Possibly a brake arm is stuck on.

(But I don't know this model number, do you know the mech-chassis type? Sounds like it may be K-Mech, also check the cam motor coupling (on shaft, inside the plastic worm - commonly splits causing low torque, jamming or erratic operation.)
