This fixed my F1 fault:
Just had the F1 fault on my Ultracom 30SXI. Over the last week I have suddenly got got the fault on almost a daily basis but was cleared after pressing the recessed reset button. When the fault occurred I could hear the boiler start and what sounded like ignition then cut out a number of times. I thought the first thing a plumber would do would replace the PCB so I found a new one on ebay (£50 - full price £150) and fitted it myself (easy if you note where the connectors go). Problem now fixed.
The PCB part is listed in the manual as 0020023825 but has the number 0020018279 printed on it (old an new both the same).

Hello people.

Im also a lucky owner of a glow-worm boiler Ultracom CXI and i have also had the same problem as many others, damn thing keeps breaking on me, one time it was just a wire came out of its place. NICE £70 call out and repair charge, you can remove the silver plate once you have removed the outer cover, its fine, you can see the ignition switch and see it try to light the gas.

I had F1 first off when my bottled gas ran out, then after changing the bottles F1, F1 and then it changed to F4, As some one posted here, just keep pressing the reset button and it works great.

Good luck all.

the f1 fault code is a code that appears for many different faults if appears and boiler will not run then is a pcb change if only happens when dhw run then blocked heat exchanger or over heat stat thimister if on ch then pump or blocked heat exchanger very hard to fault find what ever it is will be expensive

tried bleading rads will do system tomorrow still no luck tho did get an extra half an hour out of it and now have f4 fault anyone know?

i thought it could be an over heat problem but problaby a timed fault by the company new ignition switch or pcb. expensive parts and labour. two years is all i had out of this boiler hold on to your olds is all i can say ..............

Turns out to be a faulty electrode not igniting the gas every time. Great service from Glowworm once we called for their support. One issue is that the plumber is not familiar with this level of detail with the boiler - OK with pipes and installation though.

I tend to agree with the reliability. I now get F1 on my exactly 13 month old glowworm 24hx. My previous Trianco gas boiler lasted over 30 years (yes installed in the early 70's!) and had not been serviced (no-one knew how to do it) for its last 10 years. Interesting that the F1 only happened the day after i switched on CH after a nice mild long summer of HW only.

f1 is ignition lockout if your gas ran out it will lockout might need purging keep trying it if youve topped up your gas meter if could just be that

You will need to replace the main pcb. Gloworm said there are faults with some boards

...and just in case you think I'm being cynical, just search to find how unreliable glow worm are. eg:

Good luck again!, April 2008
Congratulations. You bought a glow worm. So did I. Same problem. You now have a hefty call out fee and parts charge if out of warranty. So much for all the energy efficiency savings you hoped to make. Good old fashioned gas boiler worked previously for 15+ years without issue. My parents have had their Ideal Standard condenser boiler condemned within two years! Tell your friends to hang on to their old boilers for as long as possible.!

Good luck., April 2008
