Where is the erase protection tab on a VHS tape?

Where do i locate the erase protection tab on my VHS tape?
Paul, March 2008
On a VHS tape, look where the side label is. Or would be. There should be a tab. If it is on, erasing the tape is as simple as rewinding to the beginning, and then hitting record. But you don't want it erased. Grab a screwdriver and insert it into the tab's slot. Then, pry it off. It is designed to snap off recordable tapes. If you'd like to record on a tape but the tab is missing, place cellophane tape over where the tab would be.

Okay, I need to record my wedding VHS tape onto a DVD-R, in a combination TV/VCR/DVD unit. I am so afraid that I am going to erase the VHS tape while recording onto the DVD, and cannot bring myself to start the record process. The back of my VHS tape has the square hole plastic removed. Does that mean it cannot be erased? HELP PLEASE!

I don't know but I need help with this on my JVC camcorder. It's so frustrating!

If you look on the back of the tape on the left hand side is a little square hole with a piece of plastic in it,snap it off with a screwdriver or knife,if you want to tape over the tape again stick a piece of sellotape over the hole.
