How can I fix my panasonic sc-ch74?

My hifi switches on and starts to run through what appears to be a start-up sequence, CD1, CD2 etc and then onto heavy, classic etc. After a short period it flashes up 'GOODBYE' and switches off with a code 'F61' displayed. Sometimes it will switch back on and start the routine again before saying Goodbye and switching off.

Panasonic part number for power amplifier IC501 is: RSN3502

* Only replace with this original part as it has special characteristics important for safety.

Try an independent Panasonic dealer to obtain the part, which should cost about £30 or ($55). If they insist on completing the repair, expect them to add another £35 ($65) for labour. Total £65 ($120).

Thanks for both suggestionsJohn and Cobweb. I'm suspecting it will be the IC that is the problem, there are no cd's in the unit. Where can I get the IC501 from?

Mick Brooks, September 2005
You may have a cd stuck in the unit perhaps or perhaps take everything out of the unit and see if this still happens.
The Error code is probably indicating a jam.

F61 indicates DC present on output pins of IC501. Suspect output audio IC501. Check power rails to IC and ensure fan circuit is functioning correctly. Faulty fan motor can cause this fault.
