My RCD keeps tripping on consumer unit?

Can anyone give a possible reason why the RCD on my consumer unit trips at random (can be during the day with just the telly on or the middle of the night with no appliances being used).
sometimes it's a month between trips and sometimes hours. Only one possible common feature is it often goes after it's been raining; but not always!
Thanks,
John

you may have damp in 1 or more of your sockets. turn off the power to the sockets and take them off and look for damp .

Do you have any external lighting that is fed from
the sockets ( security lights ect) if water is getting
into them it could cause the trip it also could be a faulty
RCD they are not easy to pin point will the rcd reset
1st time or do you have to wait ?
Hope it helps
Dave
