how can i fix my camera?

my digital camera got wet and does not work. is this likely to need a new battery?

The big question is ---how wet? If it was dropped and immersed in water it is highly unlikely to start up even after a reasonable drying out period. But you can try.
If you got caught in a shower or the camera was in a bag where some water was spilt there is a chance it may work.
Take the battery and the memory card out and leave the compartment cover open and put the camera in a reasonably warm (50-55 degrees C) with the open cover uppermost for no less than 48 hours. On top of a towel on the hot water cylinder is a ideal place.
If your lucky the camera may work. If you have a spare memory card put that in and make sure the battery is inserted and fully charged.
If after all that it won't work-forget it. The electronics in a digital camera are not user servicable.
If your camera does work do not trust the original memory card to store date correctly. Treat yourself to a new one. The original battery should be ok
