I am running Office 2000 & Windows ME. When I start Word I get as far as the rectangle with the license # etc and the PC hangs. I un-installed Office 2000 and deleted any files that were left behind that I could find but the same thing happened when I re-installed Office. Any suggestion on how to fix this?

Try cleaning your Registry. (Search for apps which will do this for you. E.g, Registry Mechanic)

Check your PC has enough free Memory. Watch the Performance Monitoring in Task Manager when you launch Word.
