Canon Starwriter?

My Canon Starwriter has started printing only the top half of alternate lines. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Not the right place. This forum is for software based word processors running on a computer.

Your device is realy a Type Writer with some, limited, processing capability and saving possibility. The very first computer based word processors put those to shame, back in the 70's... Apple Word on my, now retired, Apple ][c was much more capable...

Those are going the dinosor's way. They are no longer made, the replacements parts are almost totaly used up and you can't get any servicing for them.

Time to send it to a technologic museum and get yourself a real word processor software running on a decent computer.

By the way, your problem is certainly the ribon transport mechanism that no longer work properly. It could be a damaged or brocken part. It can also be that the ribon is ript in the middle. Good luck finding a replacement.
