What is making my Baxi Bermuda RG Fire produce fumes when alight? The fire is a flame/coal effect connected to a back boiler A corgie plumber says it is safe, but it is unpleasant.

Get a £20 Carbon monoxide detector,just to check that the fumes it`s producing are or are not dangerous.
If it`s just a bad smell I`d suspect something has been dropped down the convection vents and melted.
If the alarm goes off,DO not use the fire or boiler untill it has been thoroughly checked.
