A Sony TV uses a variety of over current and voltage schemes. Any can be "falsely" triggered by leaky diodes or capacitors. However, the talent of repairing a Sony lies in determining which protect circuit has been activated; then why? Sony is serious about repair of their equipment that they maintain a database on servicers they train. The Golden Rule of electronics is "Know Thy Product". That applies to sales AND service. If the set is relatively young, take a spin on the wheel of fortune. Here, we'll tell a customer if it's over seven years old, save your money and bury it in the backyard. All else, get that estimate and start watching for a sale. They are no longer made to last because we're materialistic minded and will buy better stuff. In short, don't try it and don't stand there dropping money into a bottomless pit.
