problems with Panasonic Viera TX-32LXD70 TV turning itself off?

I have a Panasonic Viera TX-32LXD70. I have it for over a year. The TV was working fine until maybe 6 months ago when it started turning itself off randomly, since I just turn it off with the button and then on again and it worked again I didn’t give it much thought.
This has now worsen so it not only turns it self off I also have to give several tries before it can come back on, the TV starts powering but just as you get an image the red light starts flashing and it turns itself off with red light flashing in intervals.

I have owned a TX32-LXD70 for 10yrs now. From time to time it too will switch off sporadically, often accompanied by a sudden loud sparking noise. Very alarming! In last few months it has ceased to play up - I often switch it off at the top mounted switch. Occasionally it will be slow to respond to remote commands - eg vol., channel change. But it is so intermittent, really difficult to tie down the problem. Previous posts noted, and with my experience, it's often the mechanical parts that are problems - ie, the top mains switch. After that, it's the design engineers that hold the answers but if you get through to these in such a big company as panasonic, good luck!

Model Panasonic TXL42B6B

My mother has had a similar problem with her TV the picture would not appear; the green light followed by flashing red light; sound working OK. Her TV was less than 2 years old so the screen was obviously a faulty one (unless it is normal for Panasonic TVs to fail in this timescale).

The local Panasonic repair agent took the TV away for inspection for which a fee of £24 was paid. After 5 days as we heard nothing we contacted the agent who (quite ridiculously) quoted £420 to obtain and fit a new screen. The TV was only £360 new so why he didn't just say it was a write-off heaven only knows.

The agent offered to have a word with Panasonic to see if a discount could be offered (on £420!!) but I chose to retrieve the TV myself and take the matter up directly with Panasonic given the short life of the TV to see if they were prepared to repair it free of charge. Don`t think the agent was happy with this (can`t think why). Panasonic told me that sometimes replacement parts can cost more than the complete TV!! but suggested I contact the agent again who would discuss it with them to see if any "Cost Assistance" can be allowed. The agent told me that he would discuss it with Panasonic but I would have to pay another £24 inspection fee (as the diagnosis would be unlikely to change assume this was a "that`ll teach you" charge).

So my mother would have to increase her expenditure to £48 just to find out if Panasonic would agree to bear some or all of the cost of having the TV repaired!

Laughable.

All I needed from Panasonic was a "yes" or "no" having to incur more expense on a "maybe" didn`t appeal.

In the end my mother bought a 43" LG TV for £299 and the Panasonic has made it`s final journey to the local skips.

I have the same problem with my 32 inch panasonic TV. Might be the same model number, can't remember now. 7 years old so out of warranty. It actually had a 5 year warrant but only started playing up around a year ago. Now it's getting worse and worse.

It is a big shame for Panasonic. I had seen that even Panasonic's CRT TVs have unmanageable problems but didn't believe it until I bought a plasma Panasonic. After famous 7 and 6 errors which I spent 400$ for them my TV has just started to restart spontaneously. All of it has happened in less than 3 months! Shame for you Panasonic. I will buy a cheep local brand TV and forget about this cheating brand!

Dr. AT, May 2014
Tried to turn it on with sky remote then it just goes red-doesn't flash just stays red unless I turn off. The screen has no reaction only a red light that doesn't flash.

All Panasonic TV Lcd Plasma etc, is not worth even banging your head thinking about fixing it, when you no what fault is, you will buy the so called fix, it won't work because something else caused it.
manufacturer s make money on people trying to fix things noting that something else caused it. ie don't bother banging tour head.

this is so stupid of me, my tv was turning itself off the past 2 days about the same time of the day. i could get it back on the first day, but the second i could not. moved the stand i have it on out from wall checked the cord unplugged and replugged, still not power to the tv, however the cable box kept turnin on an offf figured that is because it is hooked into the back of the tv an unplugged it cutting its power. i have the cable boxed plugged into the wall, the tv in a power strip that i had hidden to not get unplugged by kids. i forgot that the plugs dont stay in tight in that strip, was affraid i would have to buy a new tv, then room mate looked at the strip the tv was not complely plugged, tv working again just fine lol

Our Panasonic Viera was switching off straightaway - we left it for a couple of days for any power left inside to be discharged, took the back off, and dusted everything in sight with a soft brush, and it is now working fine :o)

Hi, i have tx32lxd52 panasonic 32" lcd tv, when i switch on the picture is red gostly effect, all i can see is outline picture in red with gostly effect in red. Please help to solve my problem

I also have the TX32LDX70, and mine has the same start-up issue. Has anyone uploaded the firmware update?
Mine does not switch off randomly (thankfully)

BTW, I find that switching off at the on/off button on top of the tv, and then holding the red remote standby button discharges the tv fairly well.
I then find turning it on, and pressing (quickly) 1211212112 on the remote until the tv comes on usually wake it up. Not good though.

AiLuc, November 2012
Did anyone manage to get a firmware update and did this fix the issue. Is there an internet site to download the firmware from. Really annoying

huff huff, September 2012
Having probs with our Viera 32" on/off switch, same thing went wrong with previous older model Panasonic TV (same sort of switch) neither very old when fault started must be common switch fault? Company should look into this.

J. Unhappy, August 2012
Same TV same problem. No joy with Panasonic conclusion NEVER EVER buy another Panasonic!

Mike, May 2012
Re-setting the TV by going to "Shipping Condition" and re-starting worked for me too! It deletes any erroneous codes and restarts the TV from default settings... and it works!

David, May 2012
Same tv. same problem again of turning off after six months. Getting really annoying after three years. Keeps swapping av source randomly too. Might as well buy a cheap brand next time.

modernlifeisrubbish, April 2012
you need to get the code for the tv and put it into ur remote control.you can do this with a sky remote.its a four digit code you can get off the net.hope this helps

I have a Pansonic 32TXPL10 television (Old but good), there is a humming sound on the sound system which gets worse the brighter the picture, is there an easy fix?

John Milli, February 2012
I have a Pansonic TX32-LMD and have exactly the same problem. Mine was OK for 6 months then intermittent problem but not enough to call anyone out as it started if I powered on and off. Now 2.5 yrs later in wont work at all. It Tries to power up wiht the green light fails and the red light flashes. Wish I had called them under warranty now I guess its off to the rubbish dump and buy another make for me

Rik, February 2012
I think it's the on/off switch on the TV that's faulty. My TX-L37D25B started doing this and I found out that just touching the switch was enough to restore the power. I thought this was a static effect until I noticed that in the "on" position the button can be slightly tipped one way or the other. In between the two extremes, the TV loses power. I can't be bothered with a repair job, so the switch is now sellotaped in position and - voila! No more random switching off.

I am having the same problem with TX32??

I am really disappointed as chose this model because of the good rep and report by WHICH what a con>

Can anyone post a tutorial in which the proccess of upgrading the firmware is detailed? I have the 32txd70 and I'm experiencing the same problems for over 2 years now. Resetting 3-4 times from the power button always seemed to solve this but it's really starting to be frustrating and I wanna fix this issue.

GeorgeE, February 2011
The same problem is occurring with the P50G20 that we purchased in Oct 2010. Off for a few seconds then back on by itself. Tried repacing HDMI cord and had cable checked and upgraded. Still same problem.

AFD in MI, January 2011
wow - I guess misery likes company, because I was actually a little relieved to see that other people had the same issues with this tv.
I bought this tv for my family for christmas... worked fine for a week, and then turned shut down just as the ball was dropping on New Years Eve. Now it won't work at all. No power whatsoever.
Maybe my tv just doesn't like 2011.

tammy, January 2011
We have the same model Panasonic and the same power-up problem from new. Turn on, pictureless warm up, then tv turns itself off with a blinking red light. We then push the on/off button to get rid of the red flashing light. Two seconds later, turn on again. The tv works fully and in all other respects the set is very good indeed, with picture quality being the best we have ever seen whether in digital or HD. SD isn't bad either. Our tv problem does not have a problem with start-up by remote in stand-by. Interesting

MJG, December 2010
I have the same fault and it is caused by the back-lights and the control system of the television. As the back-lights get older, the power needed to turn them on goes up slightly. However, the control system sees this as a fault and then turns them off again.

The problem can be solved by getting a service firmware update. This changes the limit at which the control system turns the backlights off.

my tv is 4 and a half years old started the on off rubbish its still under warrantee so will let you know whats happening

madii, July 2010
My TH-42PX70BA has had this fault for about a year now. Panasonic suggest taking it to an authorised dealer for repairs.

SF, June 2010
Our doesn't really turn off the screen just goes to black sometimes several times during an hour or two, and the picture returns. Its for several seconds at a time. Does anyone have this problem?

B & T, February 2010
My 42" panasonic viera went in to stand by when sky suddenly went off and I tried all sorts thinking it was broken I just decided to hold the on/off button (red button) down constantly suddenly it burst in to life!!!!

Pammie, February 2010
My LMD700 is also doing this. Is there any update and did the firmware upgrade help

Jean, February 2010
I have the same problem and from what i can tell it seems to be a generic problem as have seen many forums describing this issue.
Does anyone know where i can get the firmware. Also have another issue bought the TV in the UK then moved to Germany and now i cannot pick up sound on the analogue channels very annoying. Anyone any ideas.

mark, January 2010
I thought it was only my 37" Viera that was turning off into standby mode.
Had sky HD + fitted 2 weeks ago and since then it's turned off 3 times...
So anybody know if I will need a new TV in the coming months ???
Thanks

Neil, October 2009
I have a TX-26LXD600 with the same problem. I have found that it is a manufacturing fault. IC101 on the P Board does not seat fully on the heatsink, the bottom third part of it is not on the heatsink, the P board is the top centre oblong board.
I tried repositioning it properly on heat sink-no good.
I made the heatsink larger-no good.
I replaced the board problem solved.
The IC-F9222F had already died causing the TV to shut down after about 1 hour.
You can replace the IC if you can find a supplier or replace the board which is the easiest.
The board in the TX-26LXD600 is the same as in the TX-32LXD600

I have the same problem with the TV (LXD 700) turning itself off before the picture comes on. An engineer was out to install a software upgrade. The fault now happens less frequently, but it still occurs. Did your firm ware upgrade fix the problem completely? The locar repair dealer wants to charge me £70 for a repair report that panasonic insist on having for the same fault that happened before. I think it should be panasonic who pays for the repair report. Did anyone have any luck with panasonic customer "care"?

iglu, September 2009
I have had massive problems with my Panasonic TX -32lxd70.It is so bad I cannot bear to turn the tv on because I know what will happen.Your enjoying a programme and then on and off the tv will go.It's out of warranty so I guess I do not have a leg to stand on.Very frustrating !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neil Baker, September 2009
there is a surge in this tv apparently which holds a charge you need to switch your tv off by the wall every few days this will let the charge dissipate out of the tv if you do this you should see an improvement overnight will be enough but remember to switch off at plug

mike from bristol, January 2009
You need a firmware upgrade - I had the same problem and Panasonic sent a tech over within 24 hrs. He cleaned the connection and then did a firmware upgrade to fix the probelm.

Grumpy, January 2009
Hi all, Same problem with my brothers tx-32lxd70 I have replaced the power supply unit pcb thinking I was sure this was the problem, but the tv still cut out to standby and then comes back on intermittingly. What I have noticed though with an electricians test screwdriver that the av3 phono plugs and the rear of the tv base stand (metal part) are live, although a very small voltage, but enough to light the screwdriver, 2nd finding was putting a house cooling fan blowing in to the rear right hand side seemed to virtually not totally eliminate the auto shutdown thus wondering if its a heat issue on the pcb. I was just wondering if you've had any joy with your tv.

Andy B, January 2009
We bought the same TV in January and started having the same problems around the summer. Took it back to retailer who took it away and "repaired" it. They thought it was something to do with the power switch. Two weeks after getting it back it started again. They have now agreed to replace it with a newer model.
Had a quick look on the Internet and not found anything else yet.

Gordon, December 2008
Thanks for the advice. Have already tried turning it off from the mains and leaving it off for day but it still doesn't fix it, it used to do it before but nothing now works.
Latest is that I can't even get to turn it on not even after several tries.
Have tried contacting Panasonic via support center (e-mail them) but no answer yet. Have contacted also their local repair representative and they seem to think is hardware rather than software, they charge 70 pounds for diagnostic but as you mentioned I don't see why should pay if its a manufacturing fault (less than a year and half of use).

maguzmc, December 2008
Try turning it off at the on/off switch (Rather than put it into standby with the Remote.) and leave it off for an hour or so. Then turn it back on. I'd be interested to hear if this fixes it.

BTW, Which? say that modern TVs should last at least five years. Anything less indicates a manufacturing fault which should be dealt with under the Sale Of Goods Act, rather than the manufacturer's warranty.

Second Panasonic are a good company with a good reputation. What do they have to say?
