whistling water pump?

when my heating has been going for some time, the pump gets scorching hot and starts to whistle. any ideas??

Big T is on the right track but if the cold feed is blocked from tank to pump inlet the tank remains full but pump cavitates
With system switched off slacken pump inlet connection to ensure lquid is present

Check the pump isn't running dry. If you have a header tank for heating push the ball valve down and see if it is providing water.
