Our speakers always worked before, but once I copied a music cd last week, they simply stopped working. The computer is an hp pavilion mx703, the speakers harman/kardon. The speakers work on other computers in the house. I did the entire "help" menu, and went through all the steps, and can't figure out what's wrong.

I have 3 computers and my Windows 98 SE and XP Professional computers work fine with the speakers, but its only my new, good windows 7 one that thay don't work with, and it recognises them and everything but they won't make any noise at all, it doesn't even make that buzzing noise when it is not properly plugged in. Can anyone help me with this?

if your sound isnt working its because your driver is outdated so on, so just download Realktek audio drivers works for both XP and Vista!

My speakers are working but theres no sound coming off them when i try playing a song in wmp and getting error messsage "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

--Jay---I tried everything everything is fine but i jave no sound...I installed drivers,i checked the slot,i checked everything and everything says that they should work but my speakers DONT i tried them on another PC and they work.....what the hell shoul i do even in dxdial or whatever the test i cant hear a thing....but it says its ok :D help pls ;)

I have a similar problem my speakers suddenly dont work the computer recognises them and says that they're working, my headset dose work however, i'd prefer the speakers. I have added music from a cd but they worked for a couple of days after that. my computer is fairly new

I have the same problem that you are describing. my comp. old but the everything else works. i'm not really comp. savy and don't have any software or anything that came w/ it b/c its my parents old one.
i tried doing the control panel thing and it said "no audio device". my speakers are plugged in correctly (the colors match up). i also tried the 'run' and 'test direct sound'. here it says there is a failure at step three (DirectSoundCreate). i have no idea what this means and i hoping you could help. i'd really love to listen to my music when I'm studying!! :) thanks.

Check the volume settings in start> control panal.. and make sure the volume isn't turned down or on mute. if thats ok you could try testing your sound output by typing ' dxdiag ' into the 'run' function in the start menu and click on the sound tab. click on the 'test direct sound' tab and you should hear a series of weird like insect noises.. you should also check to make sure the speakers are plugged into the correct slot as its too easy to plug them into the mic port by mistake.. if none of this works its prob a driver fault with the sound card, try reinstalling the audio software and driver fron the setup cd that should have came with your pc.. best of luck...
