my mail messages get rejected to my daughter who has a different e.mail address to me but we share the same modem in the house, is it because we live at the same IP address?

No, that's nothing to do with it at all, it's probably your e-mail settings for each account that need to be checked out with your Internet provider. Most providers allow you to create multiple e-mail addresses and if you use the same computer that won't make a difference so your e-mail settings need to be checked out
