Depends on the size of rad and the length of the pipe run. You could do as above, or undo the unions (but not the bleed valve) and ease the rad of the wall brackets and lay the rad down, then do the unions up?

Turn off both valves (Clockwise)
Put down plastic sheet & old towels
Place paint roller tray under valve
Undo union between valve & radiator water will trickle
Open bleed screw and undo union fully - water will run faster
Use jug & bucket to empty paint tray
Loosen union at other end and put another roller tray under
At the end water may well run quite black
When drained do up bleed screw to avoid accidents
Lift rad from wall - often best with two people
Turn rad upside down and cover holes with clingfilm (it keeps the sludge off the carpet - that's why you closed the bleed screw
