try going into your bios and make sure that the usb ports are turned on

Are the ports physically damaged? If so you could try installing a USB PCI card.
However, it might just be that the driver software is missing. In which case, find out what your motherboard is, then goto the manufacturers web site, download and instal the correct drivers.
