My pentax optio 50 is only about 2 years old, i went to used it, and it worked at first, i then turned it off. I went back to it a while later, and it was black screen, with only the needed info i.e. Date, Amount of pictures left, pixles etc...I can look back at the pictures I had already taken. When i looked to see what was wrong i checked the shutters and they don't seem to click shut like they should. I have tried to reset it but that does not work either!

I had the same problem recently and got excellent advice from Jacobs camera shop as to what the fault was. He tried releasing the shutter by tapping the camera and kept trying to take photos whilst doing it. This did not work and as the cheapest repair was £52 I thought I had nothing to loose by trying to get into the camera myself. I removed five small screws from around the casing. I couldn't open the camera but eased it slightly apart at the (empty) battery/sd card area. Tried the camera and it sounded good. Screwed back together and it is as good as new.
