Shut dowm porblems?

I have a IBM Thinkpad. When I go to turn computer off windows will not shut down. If I press the power button the computer still will not shut down. Any advice?

my computer got frozen cant open it ,i believe it was an email spam that i opened by misstake,it starts to work when i open it but it frozen after and cant do nothing anymore just by using power button to turn it off and on.im using another computer at the moment as mine dont open

Turn it over push both clips to the right and take out battery.
