Even after the red light has switched itself off and it is supposed to be ready to used. This happens all the time now and I cannot correct it,

Exactly right. I have a Vaporetto Vt2085 1500 watts but I wasn't careful and broke the valve. On mine the solenoid slides off without a nut and washer but the tubular part of the valve under it is delicate and my wrench slipped. The opening on the valve was covered with white lime.

The valve switch coming from the tank will be blocked with limescale. Take the top off where you fill with water, pull the heater and attachment switch out carefull. Take off the wires from each switch label them so you know where to put them back. Undo the screws underneath the bottom they are six pointed star screws T20 (but you need a hole in the screwdriver) lift the top off Where the steam comes out of the tank there is a T connector one side is the heater the other is the pressure switch. Thats the one you have to unscrew take the two wires off first and unscrew .(Make sure there is no water in the tank) In there you will find limescale probably not much but this stops the steam getting through. Put it back together switch it on the steam may not come out first time you pull the trigger keep trying it will come.
I paid 90 pound two years ago to have this problem solved. Three days ago it went again. It was out of warranty so Idecided to take it to pieces and it worked;
