sometimes the automatic igniter doesnt start & i have to tap the control box to start it off its getting worse as time goes on

Could be a loose connection on the Pcb or a dry joint on the board itself, get a Gas Safe Register engineer to have a look, if the above do not work you could be looking to repalce the Pcb.
