The detergent release mechanism is not opening during a cycle, so the washing tablet is not being released into the dishwasher.

The mechanism seems to work okay when opening or closing it manually.

Have tried switching the appliance on and off at the mains.

The detergent dispenser door is operated by an electrical device called a solenoid - I guess this has failed, or maybe the wiring to it....its accessible within the door of the dishwasher.
