Weights do not go down?

I recently moved my grandfather clock to paint the wall behind. The pendulum stopped. When I moved it back and restarted the pendulum, the weights will not drop. It does chime correctly.

Mary Ann, see some of the other answers on time between service on a clock. Many clocks run for years on their own dirt as long as they are not moved. Once they are moved and the dirt and wear is shifted, the clock stops. If it has not been serviced in more than 3 years I would call in a professional to look at it.
