Radio combined heater unit problems, Seat Ibiza?

I believe my Seat Ibiza 2000 1.4 has a common fault with its radio/aircon unit. The radio keeps turning itself on, even though the ignition is off. I have taken the fuse out in order to stop the battery going flat, and in turn, this turns the air con on. However, the air con is blowing out warm air and the controls cannot be adjusted unless the radio fuse is put back in.
From researching various reports on this - it appears that this a common fault and that a reconditioned unit can be fitted in order to rectify the problem. Can you confirm your thoughts on this along with costs and places I could take my car to.

How I fixed this issue. I pulled off the front face of the radio, pulled off the ribbon cable and took out the 4 black screws. I then pulled out the big metal unit and took the 3 different connectors out the back. I pulled out the red 10A 32V fuse and noticed it had blown. I then took the red 10A 32V fuse for the smoking lighter port and put in the back of the radio. Reinstalled the whole metal unit, replaced the ribbon cable and put the radio face back on. It worked, and was definitely worth the investigation.

I hope this fixes your issues.

my radio works fine but my heater is stuck on full blast and there is no way of me changing the settings as it does not work. it works evey now and then about once a month i can change the settings but i only get about 5 minutes to do it when it lets me. i thought that it would be a lose conector or something along them lines but it wasnt and need some help working out what the problem is as it seems a common problem?

thanks :)

GTS don't seem to be running?? I have tried several times to contact them and it is the 'wrong number'. I have big problems with my seat ibiza heater and radio unit - It does not work at all!

Does anyone have any other repair ideas other than being charged £400 by seat?

Hi
My daughter had the same problem with her Ibiza Sport 2001(Y) - the centre display went blank and there was no control of any of the heater/aircon controls or radio.
Managed to fix it by removing the aircon and radio fuses - turn the ignition on for a few seconds - turn off the ignition - replace the aircon fuse - turn on the ignition again - display still blank - turn off the ignition - replace the radio fuse - turn the ignition on again - all working again!!!
I might have just been lucky - hope it works for you too!

Hi there. I had similar problem with the radio in my 2000 Ibiza 1.4 cool s. switching on & off + the aircon fan comes on full every time I restart the car. I replaced the combined on/off volume control which sorted the radio out but not the aircon.Seat aught to have replaced these units long out of guarantee as they have known about this problem for a long time. my neighbour has an 03 ibiza & he has the same problem.Ithink i will give seat a miss next time round.
