How can I "free" wooden casement windows that have been painted closed?

I have three casement windows in my new - to me - house which have recently been painted when the windows were closed and now they will not open. Are there any techniques or tools that I can use to remove the bonding paint without damaging the windows?

a sharp chisel knocked intojoint were it has been painted over moving all arond the window.
if it still wont open magor work will be needed to take off beading to side of frame again with chisel.
