Circuit Breaker Trips ?

When I plug in a soup kettle, it heats up correctly but after a while the main circuit breaker cuts all the power - is the kettle faulty ?

If you mean the RCD it could be that there is just a bit too much current leakage so it may be worth contacting the manufacturer.
Otherwise yes, it sounds like your soup kettle is faulty.

It certainly is! This means a direct short to ground.
