How can I restore my computer back factory setting. My Hubby downloads stuff then loses the disk so he can't delete them now the computer is so slow and it's only a year old. I was told by a friend that restoring it to factory setting would solve the problem so we could start again

You can reinstall the Operating System and all the applications but before doing anything so drastic try...

1) Click Start / Run and enter

msconfig

& click OK
select the Start Up Tab and uncheck all the ticked boxes (you may wish to check any boxes for security products)

2) Download Spybot Search & Destroy (free) & run it weekly

3) Download Piriform's CCleaner (free) and use the registry tool to fix issues with your machine's registry

4) Defragment the disk

Consider using Mozilla Firefox browser - many people do.

Then see how it goes....
