the fire blows hot for five minutes then it blows cold air out- can it be repaired?

This means that the overheat sensor is tripping, cutting off power to the heating element. It should reset itself and heat will be restored for a while. This happens due to fluff build up on the elements, or insufficient air getting to the heater, usually.
