Pull switch does not turn light off?

I changed the centre light in our bathroom from one with shade to a glass one that it tight to the ceiling. I took the old one down and just swapped over the wires from the old unit to the new. Now the light won't switch off from the pull string. I tried a new pull string unit but it still does not work. I have changed nothing only the unit as the brown and blue wire were there from the old unit. There was no earth on the old unit. Coming out the ceiling is heavy duty wires Red, Black, Black and Green and these all go into a small box and the blue comes out of the Red and the Brown comes from the Black. I have changed the brown and blue around but nothing happens...Why does it not turn off ? Please can anybody help !
Thanks

Hi John,
I connected the swich as it was on the one I took of. So I am sure the switch is wired in ok as I bought the same one...
So the rose is the round metal casing in the ceiling ?
and what is the OP ?
Why though has it all stopped ?
I have done many light changes over the years and never had a problem before.
I know basic electrics but I have tried swapping every wire but nothing happens it either stays on or off.
I have copied all the wires in the hall light and they are all the same except the hallway has an earth.
I best get a electrician in to sort then.
Thanks for the advice.

Agreed - but he did fit a new pull switch too.....

Nothing to do with the switch John. The OP has screwed up the the wiring at the rose.

To the OP, unless you understand how to use a meter (safely) to sort out which wire is which, get an electrician in to sort it out.

Did you connect the old wires to terminals Com (C) and L1 on the new switch?......or did you connect them to L1 and L2?
