Can I fix my Simpson Esprit Front Loader Washing Machine? (Model 45 S 551 D?

The ROTARY Programme selet dial (control) has been "Sticking", and extremely difficult to turn for several weeks. Today something must have broken, or disconected inside the control panel, as the dial now just spins around freely, without any 'clicking'. Is this an expensive repair, or a possible DIY?
