fitting skylight?

I have a truss roof called a 'Fink' approx 18ins centres, going by style.
Can any part of the truss be cut out to fit a velux roof window or will I have to get a structural engineer to determine what can be cut and how to support/re-inforce the cut section. Local fitter wouldn't takle it when he saw it was a truss roof.
Thanks

Under no circumstances can a fink truss be cut without consulting a engineer. However you might be pleasently surprised how little work is necessary to achieve the engineers requirements... Avoid any smart a*** who thinks he knows better!! GOOD LUCK
