Well, you should have downloaded something from a safe website. And, to prevent and fix the computer malware or any other malicious from sneaking into your PC, you may need a real-time protection with a good antivirus. Hope you can get more from this good article here:

Good luck to you :0)

Some time the virus/malware is clever and will not allow connections to any site that may be able to remove your problem, therefore if this is the case get a loan of a friends computer and download some of the previous suggested software onto a usb drive and install and run them from there!

depends what make of laptop and what system....the answer below was spot on and the only way for pain free laptop use in my humble opinion, unless you know what you are dong and are prepared to spend half your life outwitting companies and cleaning up your machine...is get a simple dell laptop running ubuntu..personally I've always had problems with development companies but rarely got a virus or trojan..anyway..try going to microsoft help and support and running FIX-IT automatically(if its vista).. best of all nuke clean it 32 times..reformatt with a proper windows disc (as opposed to windows made for hp or pc world etc etc with a ton of crap added)..put on a good security system...make sure any non windows progs are patched and up to date, keep the thing clean, and unless you dont mind every man jack and his dog in your pc then be prepared to do this on a regular basis

Over time, naughty software will sneak into your machine, slow it down and send informtion about your web browsing back to commercial marketing people who sell it on to advertisers - your pop up comes from software running in the background on your system. All this malicious stuff is sometimes called MalWare.

You need to get into the machine's Startup list and disable all the rubbish that's called to run at start up time....

On Vista you can use Windows Defender - Software Explorer - Startup - and disable everything by unchecking the boxes.

On XP enter msconfig in the RUN box and click OK and uncheck everything in the Startup list.

Then connect to the internet...

Then download and run Spybot Search & Destroy (free) - it will take several minutes and will very probably find dozens or even hundreds of naughty pieces of software - tell it to Fix the problems...

Then get hold of AVG (free) antivirus software and search your machine for viruses.

Also consider not using Microsoft's Internet Explorer in favour of perhaps, Firefox by Mozilla (free) - I have a personal prejudice against IE and believe Firefox more secure. 25% use Firefox - even Bill Gates has used it!

Piriform's CCleaner (free) is useful and has a tool to tidy up the machine's registry.

While you're at it consider defragmenting your disk once a year.

Adopt good housekeeping habits.

Good luck...
