When you took the screws out they were holding a plastic strip at the back of the machine, pull this plastic strip and you will get to the top board that will slide out. That if it is like mine.
At the back of the machine on mine there is a plate with I think 6 screws, this gives me access to the belt.
Mine is a Hoover Washer/dryer so might be slightly different.
