i have a sony trinitron tv that when turned on it takes awhile to get a picture and when it does come on it constantly blinks

I have a Sony Trintron KVXF25M30 tv hooked up to Foxtel and a dvd player.My tv sometimes fades it picture to a darker contrast, and this also happens while i watch dvds.
