aerial splitter causespoor quality picture?

i have fitted a 4 way passive aerial spliter it causes poor picture do i need to remove this and fit a distribution amplifier or can i improve picture by adding a masthead amplifier in conjunction with the passive splitter. picture is ok with 2way passive spliter fitted ?

I am afraid there is no definitive answer except to say that four way splitter will nearly always result in a poor signal.

A mast-head amp is always the place to start however, because you are amplifying a better signal to noise ratio there. So I'd do that first but you may still find that you nee distribution amp as well. (I have both.)
